| Technical-vocational
education will be implemented starting this schoolyear, for selected 140 technical-vocational
and trade schools in the country, the Department of Education said in a report.
DepEd said it concluded Friday a three-week related training for 1,539
technical-vocational teachers held at various regional training centers.
The training aims to upgrade the technical and vocational skills of TVE teachers
and equip them with the needed tools to handle the job. DepEd requires
TVE teachers to acquire a National Certificate Level 1 or 2 in their field of
specialization. It said it expects that by school year 2009-2010, the
number of tech-voc schools in the country will increase to 261. DepEd
also said they need to provide high school students the skills demanded by the
labor market so that they can be employed even if they don't finish college.
Priority areas covered by the curriculum for arts and trade schools are electrical
technology, welding, computer technology, information and communications technology
and software skills and technical drawing. For agricultural schools, the
focus will be on vegetable production, food processing, animal production and
crop production while in fishery schools, fish capture, fish culture and processing.*
