| The padlocked Indian Emporium in downtown Bacolod City was reopened
Wednesday, lawyer William Mirano said yesterday. The Indian Emporium was
padlocked at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday by representatives of the building owner
where it is located at Gonzaga Street, Bacolod City. Indian Emporium owner
Bhagwani Chugani is renting the store space from building owners Angeles and Jose
Vasquez. Chugani has a pending civil case filed in court against the Vasquez
couple for specific performance and/or to fix the reasonable rental of the lease
with damages, and a court order for a status quo had been issued. On Tuesday
an urgent motion to break open padlocked premises filed by Chugani was heard.
Counsels of both parties argued their respective positions before Judge
Pepito Gellada of RTC Branch 53 and the motion was submitted for resolution, Mirano
said. But before Gellada could rule on the motion of the plaintiff, defendant
voluntarily opened the padlocked Indian Emporium at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, he
said. The case is set on June 4 for a conference of the parties for a
possible amicable settlement, he added.*CPG back
