Fire hits Calatrava
town hall - police
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Fire broke out at the municipal hall of Calatrava, Negros Occidental, at about 5:30 p.m. yesterday, but nobody was injured, police said.

Calatrava police chief Danilo Zuniega said the fire gutted the offices of the treasurer, accounting and assessor and also the radio room. Police investigations showed that the fire reportedly originated from the treasurer's office.

Zuniega said the fire was placed under control at about 7:30 p.m. last night by responding firefighters and fire trucks of Calatrava, San Carlos City, Toboso and Escalante.

He added that the fire volunteers of Mayor-elect Alfonso Baguio Jr in his haciendas, town residents and policemen, also helped in putting out the fire

The cause of the fire and the damage it caused have not yet been determined by arson investigators of the Bureau of Fire and Protection as of last night.*GPB
