WNC, La Salle claim
Mighty 7-a-side titles

Robert Canedo struck with barely a minute left to power West Negros College "A" past Shakey's, 1-0, in the finals of the Mighty-WNC 7-a-side football tournament at the WNC pitch in Bacolod City Friday.

WNC "A" suffered its only loss at the hands of Shakey's in the group stage. The return showdown remained tight until Canedo's piledriver was slightly deflected by the Shakey's defenders before the ball rolled past the goal-line to lift the Wesnecans to the crown in the 16-team event. The women's crown went to an alumni team from the University of St. La Salle, which swept its three games over the USLS varsity team and two WNC squads.

As group winners, Shakey's, UNO-R, USLS and Bacolod United all advanced to the quarterfinals. But only Shakey's and La Salle survived the first knockout phase.

La Salle got bundled out by eventual champion WNC, which scored a 2-0 blanking, easing the pain of a similar loss suffered by West Negros "B" in the semis to Shakey's.*
