2 most-wanted fall

Two most-wanted persons with pending arrest warrants for murder, were arrested last week in the cities of Sagay and Escalante, and in La Castellana town in Negros Occidental, police said.

Nabbed by virtue of arrest warrants issued by Judges Renato Muņoz and Alfonso Combong were Alfred Tenerife and Melvin Nathay.

Supt. William Senoron said yesterday that Tenerife, who is facing murder charges, ranks number two among the 10 most-wanted persons in Sagay. Nathay, a resident of E.B. Magalona town, was also arrested by the police in Brgy. Cabacungan, La Castellana on July 27. He is also facing murder charges and was denied bail by the court, Inspector Raymond Maningo, La Castellana police chief, said.

On the other hand, Jun Mar Santi, 25, gave himself up to Mayor Melecio Yap in Escalante City.

Chief Inspector Leonardo Angcon, Escalante police chief, said Judge Roberto Javellana of the San Carlos City Regional Trial Court has recommended no bail for Santi who is now locked up in jail.

Meanwhile, a joint team of police and military men seized 554 board feet of Banayos lumber on July 25 in Sitio Pinus-an, Brgy. Camindangan in Sipalay City.

The confiscated lumber in assorted sizes, has an estimated market value of P8,317, police said.

Chief Inspector Jomil John Trio, Sipalay police chief, yesterday identified the arrested suspect responsible for cutting the banayos, which is prohibited by the law, as Ernesto de la Paz. De la Paz is now locked up in jail, while the confiscated forest products were turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Sipalay.*GPB

Cops release
3 present at encounter

Police released on Saturday the three persons who were present at the encounter site during a recent gunbattle between rebels and Scout Ranger troopers in Brgy. Menchaca, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Town police chief Danilo Zuniega said they were released because no charges had been filed against Johnny Rosaot, Jesus Benoga and Herman Ugdamin, all of Brgy.Mechaca, Calatrava,. Police records show that the three were turned over to the Calatrava police by Scout Rangers on Thursday midnight.

The 30-minute gunbattle between Scout Rangers and about 60 rebels who were reported to be members of the New People's Army Larangan Gerilya 3 on Thursday, claimed the life of Leopoldo Ilustrisimo Sr., alias Ka Akoy Dikyam, who was tagged by the military as secretary of the LG3 Organizing Committee.

Ilustrisimo, whose son, Leopoldo Jr. served as a platoon leader of the same rebel unit operating in northern Negros, died from gunshot wounds in the head and right side of his body. The encounter also caused injury to PFC Jerwin Aragona, a member of the 3rd Scout Ranger Company.

Ilustrisimo, a resident of Hacienda Pula, Brgy. Guimbalaon, Silay City, was buried yesterday by his family, police said.

Ilustrisimo was initially identified by the military as Leo Sisbreno, project coordinator of the Negros Rural Assistance Program Corporation, from an identification card recovered from him .

However, his real identity was discovered Thursday when his family claimed his cadaver from a funeral parlor in Calatrava.*GPB

2 injured in stabbings

Two persons were injured while three others were arrested in stabbing incidents in Bacolod City during the weekend, the police said.

Ernesto Segovia, 25, of Purok Cereza North, Brgy. 4, Bacolod City, was rushed to the Riverside Medical Center with a stab wound on his back inflicted by an unidentified person at about2:15 a.m. Saturday, police reports said.

Police records showed that Segovia was stabbed when a brawl broke out at the Ware Hauz bar at 21st-Lacson Streets, on July 28.

Arrested by the responding Police Station 2 officers were Mark Greg Dofelez, 19, of Celita Village, Brgy. Alijis; Eric Tan, 20, of Purok Nami-Nami, Brgy. Banago; and Oliver Bacotoc, 19, of Paglaum Village, all in Bacolod who were allegedly among the bar customers involved in the scuffle. Meanwhile, Jaime Mission, 19, of Gonzaga Extension, Brgy. 28, in the city, was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for stab wounds on his head, jaw, and eyebrow inflicted by still unidentified persons at about 2:10 a.m. Saturday, police records showed.

The police said that they found Mission lying unconscious at Narra Street, Brgy. 17, Bacolod City after a concerned citizen informed them about a commotion in the area. The police added that they are still investigating the incidents.*PP
