Fire hits drugstore,
2 clinics destroyed

A drugstore and two clinics were razed by fire at about 3:40 a.m. yesterday at corner Perdices and Colon streets, in Dumaguete City.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Cristino Bato of the Bureau of Fire Protection said that the blaze which lasted two hours and 20 minutes, engulfed the Belbornz Botica Sa Shell, a medical clinic, stockroom of Shell Gas Station, and a multicab vehicle. Spot investigation by the fire bureau revealed that the fire broke out at the Belbornz Botica Sa Shell and turned to ashes all the medicines and merchandise.

Investigation added that BFP guard on duty SFO1 Rogelio Pinili heard a loud explosion and saw the Belbornz on fire. The drugstore is located about 300 meters away from the BFP station.

The fire spread out to the clinics of Drs. Mariles Elisa Sargento, Nervis, and Remi Grace Aplaon, located at the mezzanine area of the building. It also damaged the windshield and front portion of a multicab, parked in front of the drugstore, fire probers added.

Building owner Florence Tangente suffered a laceration on her left hand and was given emergency treatment by the BFP emergency medical services. Fire ground commander City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Arnulfo Sayson said at presstime yesterday that the initial estimate of fire damage was P800,000.*RG
