| The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office has doubled the security
men detailed to Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peņa whom priest-turned-rebel Frank
Fernandez called a "primary target for liquidation of the revolutionary movement",
to ensure his safety. Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director,
yesterday advised Pena to be more security conscious, and coordinate his movements
with them. Unfazed by the death threats, Pena said he has not started to fight
the NPA yet, but if Fernandez wants a fight, he will give him a fight.
"I'll remove his head from his shoulders when I see him," Peņa said of Fernandez,
whom he called a "mad dog". The New People's Army had claimed responsibility
for the ambush of Peņa on May 30, which claimed the lives of his two companions,
and injuries to three others, including him. "The NPA will continue and
will not stop until revolutionary justice will be served on Atty. Magdaleno Peņa.
If not now, there is always a next time," the NPA had said in a statement earlier.*GPB
