Tay Tung takes solo lead

Kib Montalbo nailed 24 of his game-high 30 points in the first half to lead Bacolod Tay Tung High School past Davies Paint, 91-85, in the BUS Group-Sharp Cup 12-Under Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym Sunday.

In a press release yesterday oganizers said that Orvie Bautista contributed 19 points in the win, the Tay Tung cagers' second in as many games that was enough for them to seize the temporary lead.

St. Benilde School, which lost to Tay Tung 56-63 on opening day, bounced back with an 89-79 victory over Mansilingan Christian Academy to improve to 1-1, the press release said.

St. Rose of Lima School, a 48-52 loser to MCA, also came out with more vigor to demolish Trinity Christian School, 62-33. MCA's Jemel Montepio hit a league-high 37 points but his efforts went down the drain as Roger Ferrer and Rey Cruz offset his production with 27 and 22 points, respectively.

Christian Samson and Melbourne Alova ably backstopped the duo by combining for 24 points. Meanwhile, burly center Jan Carl Alcantara bullied his way for 18 and John Claired Amihan added 17 for St. Rose.

Games at the Po Hang Gym today pit BTTHS and TCS at 8:30 a.m. Davies Paint collides with SRLS at 10:00 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., Tay Tung High and MCA debut in the 17-Under category.

On Sunday, MCA meets Davies Paint at 8:30 a.m., SBS faces SRLS at 10 a.m. and BTTHS squares off with SBS in the 17-Under invitational at 11:30 a.m. *
