Maquiling links Dumalag
to anomalous transactions
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Dumaguete Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling announced that he will move to investigate the alleged "anomalous" transactions involving City Administrator.

Maquiling claimed that the Dumalag Concrete Products, which is associated with City Administrator Dominador "Junnie" Dumalag has been supplying the city with sand and gravel for several years now, during his privilege speech at the session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Thursday.

Under the law, Maquiling said, government officials and employees are prohibited from having a "direct or indirect" pecuniary interest in any government transaction. Reacting to the allegation, Dumalag said that the entity is being run by his brother and his son, and he has not in anyway influenced the decision of the city in instances where the supply of sand and gravel were awarded to the firm.

He said that, several times, the entity lost in the bidding for the supply of the materials for city government projects.

Dumalag said he is not worried about any investigation because he did not commit any wrongdoing.

Maquiling challenged the committee on good government of the city council to look into his allegations, or he will personally file a complaint before the Ombudsman, against Dumalag. Councilor Antonio Remollo, chairperson of the good government committee directed the secretariat of the city council to ask the department heads involved to submit reports on transactions involving the Dumalag Concrete Products.

Maquiling also claimed that the city administrator also challenged him to a fistfight, when he sought clarification on the transfer of several employees assigned at the office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, on the first week of July.

The order to transfer 12 employees bore the signature of the city administrator, he said.*RA
