| President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo hit the nail on its head when
she asked Congress to pass a number of legislations to address political killings
and poll-related violence in the country, Oriental Negros attorney Erwin Vergara
said. Vergara said law enforcement agencies should always observe legal
procedures, not only the substance, in implementing the Human Security Act of
2007. He also said a total revamp of the Commission on Elections is necessary
if only to restore its image and credibility. Meanwhile, provincial officials
lauded the president for the various infrastructure projects mentioned in her
seventh SONA, one of which is the upgrading of the Sibulan-Dumaguete alternate
airport. The President said the upgrading of the airport is now underway
after the contract was awarded to the winning bidder recently.*JG back
