Antique gives up
POF hosting job
POC, PSC TO TACKLE SEAG ROSTER TODAY
BY CEDELF TUPAS

A fresh blow to the country's grassroots sports program, was the backing out of Antique from hosting the twice-postponed Visayas Qualifiers of the Philippine Olympic Festival scheduled Sept. 3-9.

This was disclosed yesterday by Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella, who said that the Philippine Olympic Committee has broached the idea of staging the multi-event meet for Under-17 athletes in Bacolod.

But Puentevella, the POC first vice-president, said he did not commit on hosting the sports talent search project, saying he has yet to determine where to source out the funds of staging the event in Bacolod. "I am not sure if the event could draw crowds," he said.

9-ball Open
qualifiers scheduled

One of the five qualifying legs of the San Miguel Beer Philippine 9-ball Open is slated Aug. 18-19 at the Celebrity Billiards and Bar in Bacolod City, Christopher Palses, manager of the organizing Negros Billiards Stable, said Saturday.

Palses said that the top four in the qualifying leg will advance to the national finals scheduled Sept. 14-16 in a venue which will be announced later. The winner in the qualifying leg will receive P5,000, he said. In the national finals, P500,000 will be awarded to the champion, while P250,000 will be given to the losing finalist.

About P1.35 million is at stake in the national tournament. Matches for the qualifying legs will be played under a double elimination-round format, race-to-seven with alternate breaks, Palses said.

Golez rules Yulo
golf tournament

Cara Golez topped the 1st Yulo Anniversary Golf Tournament, held over the weekend at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Brgy. Binitin, Murcia.

A press release from organizers said Golez carded a two-under par 68, edging out Martin Yulo who shot a one-under 69. The tournament marked the 31st wedding anniversary of Martin and Susan Yulo, who are both members of the Club.

The culminating dinner and awarding ceremonies was held at the BGCC Clubhouse, a press release said.*
