9-ball Open is slated Aug. 18-19 at the Celebrity Billiards and Bar in Bacolod
City, Christopher Palses, manager of the organizing Negros Billiards Stable, said
Saturday. Palses said that the top four in the qualifying leg will advance
to the national finals scheduled Sept. 14-16 in a venue which will be announced
later. The winner in the qualifying leg will receive P5,000, he said. In the national
finals, P500,000 will be awarded to the champion, while P250,000 will be given
to the losing finalist. About P1.35 million is at stake in the national
tournament. Matches for the qualifying legs will be played under a double elimination-round
format, race-to-seven with alternate breaks, Palses said. Francisco "Django"
Bustamante is the defending champion. Coming in second was Leonardo Didal, followed
by Dennis Orcollo, Mike Takayama, Carlo Biado, Ronnie Alcano, Yusuke Kuruda and
