Basecom nips Chemisolutions;
AACI Transport prevails anew

BY CEDELF TUPAS

Basecom finally got its act together in the endgame to nip Chemisolutions, 72-71, Monday night for its first win in the Fil-Sino AACI Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

With RB Chua and Bobby Yap leading the way, AACI Transport bagged its second victory in three outings, after defeating JSY Transport-Unitra, 94-86.

Michael Ang and Antonio Rogacion delivered the decisive baskets that erased a 62-66 deficit, before import Deno Soriano took over as Basecom pulled through after two close defeats.

Chemisolutions, which fell to 2-1, still had a chance to snatch the game after Robbie Jalando-on made a triple to make it 71-72 and Daniel Chiu missed two free throws with 2 seconds left.

But Donald Quilantang missed a potential game-winning half-court heave at the buzzer.

Soriano had 16 points, while Antonio Rogacion added 11. Ton Ton Chua and Omar Galunan finished with 10 apiece and Michael Ang added 9 and John Montemayor 7.

AACI Transport turned to RB Chua and Yap, who combined for 40 points, to deal JSY its second loss in three games.

Chua teamed up with import Richard Verayo to put AACI on top for good in the second quarter, 38-33, before Yap sustained the momentum with 14 of his 19 points in the third quarter that ended 66-53.

Out of the 19 free throws awarded to AACI Transport forth quarter, 16 were converted with Chua and Verayo keeping JSY at bay with 7 points each.

Verayo tallied 17 points and Bol Manaloto contributed 16 for AACI Transport.

Ritchie Militante finished with 19 points for JSY. Mars Echarri and Patrick Echarri picked up 11 each, while Julius Teruel and Sukhraj Sekhon added 9 and 8, respectively. *CPT
