‘Esteban case solved’
BY
PATRICK PANGILINAN

Police Station 2 commander Senior Inspector Rei Gumban yesterday said they consider the killing of the grandson of former Negros Occidental Vice Governor Gloria Esteban “solved” with robbery and homicide charges filed yesterday against a construction worker.

A homicide case against Ramon Nelson Anoche was filed before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday for the killing of Anthony Esteban, 44.

Gumban said that one of the bases for the charges against Anoche was the statement of a 43-year-old Bacolod City Hall employee who positively identified Anoche Thursday.

The witness, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, told the police that he saw Anoche arguing with Esteban in the victim’s car when he passed the vacant lot at the Bacolod City Reclamation Area in Brgy. 10 on July 15, before the body was found at about 7 p.m. of the same day.

Esteban’s body was found with a stab wound on the chest about 15 meters away from his car. His wallet was missing, police records said.

The government worker also told the police that he did not mind what he saw between Anoche and Esteban thinking it was a “normal” scene among people who frequent the isolated area.

He only remembered seeing Anoche arguing with Esteban when news of the fatal stabbing circulated, Gumban said.

Anoche on the other hand, said that he is just being framed.

“Even (Esteban) himself can say that I am not the killer,” he said.

He added that the witness should tell the truth so the real suspect could be arrested.

He also said that he was drinking with his friends in Purok Boulevard in Brgy. 10, Bacolod City the whole day when Esteban was killed.

Anoche, who is from Purok Magtiayon, Brgy. 10, Bacolod City, was arrested on July 17 on the strength of a warrant for robbery issued by Bacolod City Regional Trial Court Branch 41 Judge Ray Allan Drilon, police records showed.*PP
