AACI drubs JSY;
Chemi wins again

BY CEDELF TUPAS

Former varsity standouts Bonbon Baclay and Ronald Arabia picked up 15 as AACI Trading streaked to its second win at the expense of JSY Transport, 91-73, Friday night in the Fil-Sino-All Asian Countertrade In. Group of Companies inter-color basketball tournament.

Meanwhile, Chemisolutions also gained its second victory, dealing Sweet Crystal Sugar another heart-breaking loss, 70-73.

The Sweet cagers managed to put up a gallant fight despite the absence of import Joel Deocadiz, who sprained his ankle in the loss in their previous game.

But they fell short for the second straight game, after Chemisolution’s Donald Quilantang and Kenderson Hao made decisive baskets that overhauled a 69-70 deficit in the final 23 seconds. Ricky Chua missed a potential game-tying triple at the buzzer.

Jeff Wee had a monster game for Sweet with 30 points, including 18 in the second half, but he was unable to get enough support as Celhelm Uy, JR Tan and Ricky Chua were the next best scorers, combining for 23.

Quilantang finished with 20 points, Hao added 18 and Robbie Jalando-on and Brian Tan joined hands for 20 more to keep Chemisolutions unbeaten.

Baclay, who played for UNO-R, engineered AACI’s strong start, pouring 9 points in the opening period, before import Ronald Arabia, a former WNC Mustang, took over in the next canto, giving AACI a 49-35 lead at halftime.

Transport tried to climb out of the hole, through Richard Verayo, Bobby Yap and Errol Su, who trimmed the gap to 60-48 only for Baclay and Arabia to put the finishing touches to the victory by combining for 13 points in the final period.

Arvin Gustilo and Atong Villanueva scored 7 markers each for AACI, while John Gawte added 6.

Verayo posted 20 points, Yap had 12 and RB Chua, Marc Lo and Errol Su combined for 27. *CPT
