WNC 7-a-side tilt
attracts 18 squads

BY CEDELF TUPAS

Fourteen teams, including a squad from Iloilo City, will vie for the men’s crown, while four teams have signed up in the women’s division in the first Mighty Sports Association-West Negros College 7-a-side football invitational tournament that kicks off Saturday at the WNC pitch in Bacolod City.

WNC coach Norman Fegidero, who is also organizing the event, said West Negros will field three teams, including an alumni squad, while University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos will parade two squads.

Central Philippine University will also join the men’s tournament, along with the University of St. La Salle, Bacolod United, Shakey’s, Bago FC, Cadiz FC, Cravings of San Carlos, Capuge of San Carlos and Panaad Boys.

The teams will be divided into two brackets, Fegidero said.

Four teams have confirmed their entry in the women’s tournament --- two from West Negros, an alumni team from La Salle and the varsity squad of USLS. Fegidero is waiting for confirmation from another local squad.

Games will be played for 15 minutes, Fegidero said, adding that there will be a five-minute extension, prior to a shootout, in the event of a draw in the semifinals. *CPT
