TESDA trains PWDs in NegOr
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Technical Educational Skills Development Authority in Oriental Negros has recorded an increase of at least 10 percent in the enrollees in their skills training program.

Isabelo Zerna, recipient of the training program in 2006 and now a trainers of TESDA for Persons with Disabilities, said different localities in the province also want to conduct trainings.

TESDA is the agency of the government supporting it in job generation, and the skills training program is aimed at the unemployment problem in the country.

Zerna, who is physically impaired, said he has proved his ability in artificial flower-making through the use of recycled papers, artificial jewelries and wood crafts.

Meanwhile, the director of the SPED Tutorial Center in Dumaguete City asked for TESDA help in providing functional skills training for the PWD children.

These special children who are mentally retarded and hearing impaired are now undergoing skills training in artificial jewelry and artificial flower making.

This is in line with the celebration of the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, Zerna said.*MA
