Four barangays in Dumaguete City did not reach the desired number of registrants for the Sangguniang Kabataan polls during the one-week registration that ended Sunday, the Commission on Elections said.
Comelec records showed that Poblacion 3 had only three registrants, Poblacion 6 - two, Poblacion 4, - one, and Poblacion 5 had none. This means that these barangays cannot complete the six-councilor SK lineup, the Comelec added.
Records also showed that the only SK registrant for Poblacion 4 was Mary Joanna Tabunda, which makes her automatic SK chairman if the registration is not extended.
The registrants for the SK in Poblacion 3 were Jeffrey Curay, Joanna Lebumface and Lizle Libato, and in Poblacion. 6, Marycris Anuling and George Genove.
On the other hand, of the eight poblacion barangays, Poblacion 7 has the highest number of SK registrants with 28 followed by Poblacion 8 -- 23, Poblacion 1 – 22 and Poblacion 2 with 13.
The Comelec said a number of youths had hoped the registration period would be extended. They said that, of the eight-day registration period, five were school days when most of them had to take examinations.
The Comelec said only those who had filed their application forms before the deadline Sunday night will be accommodated, especially those whose names were in their logbook.
The rest will have to wait for an extension of the registration period, if there is any.
In the entire city, only a thousand or more have registered for the SK elections scheduled on October 29. The highest recorded were in Barangay Calindagan with 87, Cantil-e -- 77, Batinguel - 70, and Taclobo-60. Piapi, the third largest barangay, only had 18 registered voters, Comelec records showed.*JG back
