ARROYO SAYS BY 2010
Business service jobs
to equal OFW earnings

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday said the business services sector has become the fastest growing in the economy providing 400,000 jobs compared to 8,000 in 2000.

By 2010 the forecast is one million jobs earning $12 billion, the same amount remitted by our overseas Filipinos today, Arroyo said in her State of the Nation address.

The president cited the economic gains from the country’s Cyber Corridor that encompasses centers of technology and learning running the length of all the super regions, which includes Negros island.

“The Philippines ranks among top off-shoring hubs in the world because of cost competitiveness and more importantly our highly trainable, English proficient, IT-enabled management and manpower,” she said.

Information technology will help the BIR bring in more taxes in the coming months,” she said.

And, so that no Taiwan tremor can cut off our cyber services from their global clients, PLDT and Globe are investing P47 billion in new international broadband links through other regional hubs for redundancy in our cyber space, she said.

Acknowledging that knowledge is the greatest creator of wealth, Arroyo said this year government is investing P150 billion in education, P29 billion more than last year.*CPG
