| A
healing mission with Fr. Fernando Suarez of the Companions of the Cross order
of Canada is scheduled in Pontevedra, Negros Occ. on Aug. 6 and 7. The
healing mission to be conducted under the auspices of the Mary Mother of the Poor
foundation will be held at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church in the
town. Suarez has prayed over half a million sick people last year in the
US, Philipines, Central America, Europe and other parts of Asia, Fr. Jeff Shannon,
CC, who is part of the mission team, said. A Filipino chemical engineer
who was born in Batangas, Suarez joined the priesthood in 1997 in Canada. As early
as age 16, Suarez felt God was using him in a powerful way as sick people he prayed
with were getting healed, Shannon adds. Shannon says that Suarez only
prays with people after the celebration of a healing Mass. It is the real presence
of Jesus in the eucharist who heals and He is using Suarez' hands to heal the
sick and the broken-hearted. Suarez discourages people from coming to him
for healing outside of the context of the mass, he also said. "I have witnessed
on many occasions the blind able to see, the deaf able to hear and the lame able
to walk, and cancer disappearing - these are the most powerful healings that often
take place on the spot," Shannon also said. Suarez was first assigned
as associated pastor of the St. Timothy's Parish in North York, Ontario after
his ordination. However, since 2003, when his gift of healing was becoming more
pronounced, his community have him a new ministry. He is now conducting healing
masses, retreats and missions under MMPF. Details of the healing mission in Pontevedra
will be announced later.* back to top
