Regional Director Crispin Dannug Jr. is urging employers to hire persons with
disabilities to help them become self-sufficient and productive partners in society.
Dannug made the call at the employer's forum in line with the 29th National
Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation celebration conducted by the Department
of Labor and Employment in Iloilo City last week. The celebration, which
started July 17 and ends today, is themed "Kapag May Access, May Success."
Topics discussed during the forum were tax incentives for employers that hire
PWDs, Batas Pambansa Blg. 344 also known as the Accessibility Law, PWD Profiler
and programs and projects of DOLE and the National Anti-Poverty Commission for
PWDs. Resource persons were Maila Guindan, chief, Special Investigation
Division of the Bureau of Internal Revenue 6; Architect Alberto Saclauso of the
Department of Public Works and Highways 6; Dr. Erwin Solas of the Department of
Health 6; and NAPC Sectoral Representative in Western Visayas Mario Abaygar.
During the forum participants requested DOLE to provide them of PWDs' Skills Registry
that will serve as their guide in their future job requirements. Under
Republic Act 7277 or the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons private entities that
employ PWDs are entitled to 25 percent of the total amount paid as salaries to
PWDs. They are also entitled to an additional deduction from their net taxable
income equivalent to 50 percent of the direct costs of improvements or modifications
done to facilitate access of PWDs to their company's premises.*PIA back
