| The Bureau of Customs seized about P30 million worth of smuggled
sugar and luxury vehicles yesterday, Inquirer.net reported last night.
The shipments inside 27 container vans were consigned to companies with no fixed
addresses, the report said. The sugar was consigned to Mars Cargo Freight
Logistics and the luxury vehicles to the IHF Auto Parts Trading. The 26 container
vans reportedly contained sugar from Thailand while the other contained three
luxury cars from China with Japan as its port of origin. The luxury cars
includes a Mazda multi-purpose vehicle, a BMW, and a Mercedes Benz, the report
said. The smuggled goods were discharged from their carrying vessels in
the second week of June and were considered suspicious after no entry was filed
with his office regarding the goods, Inquirer.net quoted Manila District Collector
Horacio Suansing as saying. Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales ordered
the issuance of warrants of seizure and detention for the shipments and their
immediate disposal though auction due to the smuggled sugar's perishable nature,
the Inquirer.net reported.* back to top
