Cops eye suspect
in Esteban killing
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

The Bacolod police are eyeing a suspect in the fatal stabbing of the grandson of former Negros Occidental Vice Governor Gloria Esteban whose body was found at the Reclamation Area Sunday.

Bacolod City Police Office director Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar said yesterday, however, that they cannot divulge the identity of the suspect yet as they are still investigating further the killing of Anthony Esteban, 44.

Esteban's family is offering a P10,000 reward to anybody who can give them or the police information that will lead to the arrest of his killers.

Meawhile, the 20-year-old construction worker questioned by the police on Esteban's slay is still being eyed as a "possible suspect" although laboratory test on the knife seized from him tested negative for bloodstains, Police Station 2 commander Senior Inspector Rei Gumban said yesterday. But you can just wash blood off with water, he said.

"We are still considering the possibility that Ramon Nelson Anoche may have been involved with or may have information on the killing of Esteban," Gumban said.

But they are also pursuing other leads that may lead to the identity of Esteban's assailants, he said.

Anoche maintains that he had nothing to do with Esteban's killing. His arrest by the police Tuesday was done on the strength of a warrant for robbery issued by Bacolod City Regional Trial Court Branch 41 Ray Allan Drilon, police records showed.*PP
