Mayor Ernesto Reyes of Guihulngan, Oriental Negros, said the delivery
of health services will be one of his priorities as the local government,
which became a city recently, will have an increased internal revenue
allotment share.
The Guihulngan District Hospital has been catering to patients
in the city and neighboring towns of Negros Occidental. It cannot
cater to all patients who needed major operations because of lack
of medical equipment, the mayor said. He said that with the increase
in its IRA, the city can purchase medical equipment for major operations,
and patients no longer have to be transferred to Dumaguete City.
Reyes said the hospitalization thrust of his administration
is in line with the vision of Gov. Emilio Macias II to empower the
district hospital with enough doctors.
Meanwhile, former Rep. Jacinto Paras (First District, NegOr) said
with the conversion of Guihulngan into a city, he is expecting more
infrastructure projects, salary increase for the employees and improvement
of the delivery of basic services. Paras was the sponsor of the
cityhood of Guihulngan under Republic Act 9409.*
