Hog industry leader Albert R.T. Lim said he is optimistic
that the construction of the international standard slaughterhouse
in Sagay City will pave the way to the export of Negros Occidental
pork and beef.
"It is going to be great for Bacolod and Negros
Occidental. I'm looking forward to the time that we'll be able
to export," Lim, president of the National Federation of Hog Farmers
Inc., said.
The $3 million abattoir, now being constructed
at the Sagay City economic zone, is a joint undertaking of the
Sagay local government unit and the Korean Overseas International
Cooperation Agency.

'Make
LGUs part
of CARP process'
Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas Rafael
Coscolluela yesterday said that among the recommendations he will
make for the Department of Agrarian Reform terms of engagement
in the implementation of land reform in Negros Occidental is the
need to make local government units part of the process.
Coscolluela met with DAR personnel in Negros Occidental
yesterday to get inputs. He said he has completed his consultations
and will submit his recommendations soon.
He said there is need to make LGUs part of the
process to help facilitate proper dialog with the landowners and
farmer beneficiaries to come up with something that is mutually
beneficial, without ending up in conflict.

Old
Iloilo airport bid price
reduced to P900M: exec
ILOILO CITY - The Department of Finance has lowered
the bidding price of the 54-hectare site of the old Iloilo airport
from P1.2 billion to P900 million, a city government executive
said yesterday.
Giovanni Miraflores, who represents Iloilo City
in the negotiations, said the new bidding price was computed based
on the appraised value. The new rate was sent to the Privatization
Council for opinion.
Earlier attempts to sell the airport, located in
the city's Mandurriao District, failed. Five companies pre-qualified
to bid, but only three attended the actual bidding on May 9. Robinsons
Land Corp. submitted the highest bid of P1.09 billion followed
by Empire East, P701 million, and SM Prime (P435.79 million).
Rockwell Land Corp. and Ayala Land Inc. backed out.
