Visitor at Mambukal
falls into boiling mud
BY CARLA GOMEZ

A 30-year-old man from Isabela province who fell into boiling mud in a fenced-off area at the Mambukal Resort in Murcia town suffered from second degree burns and remains confined at the Bacolod Adventist Hospital (formerly the Bacolod Sanitarium and Hospital).

Leo Bartolome, 30, is seeking help from the provincial government for his medical expenses and his request has been forwarded to the Provincial Legal Office.

Bartolome, who was a guest at the resort, on July 9 had entered an area fenced off with bamboo with a sign that reads "caution boiling mud area", resort manager Ellen Vasquez said.

He may have tried to reach for something in the boiling mud that is the hottest area in the resort when the surface he was standing on gave way and he fell in, she said.

His companion shouted for help after his body was submerged in the boiling mud and resort rescuers rushed him to the hospital, she said.

Bartolome sustained 40 percent scalding burns on his total body surface area with second degree ones on his bilateral lower extremities, anterior abdomen and bilateral upper extremities, his medical report said.*CPG
