49-year-old farmer believed to be suffering from mental illness stabbed his wife
dead in their home in Barangay Cangharay, Jimalalud, Oriental Negros, Monday,
the town Philippine National Police said. Investigators said Lunie Paco
used a stainless steel knife to stab his wife, Felecita, 46, in her left breast.
She was proclaimed dead on arrival at the Gov. Billy Villegas Memorial Hospital
in Guihulngan town. Before the incident, the suspect had suffered severe fever
for three days due to wound infection in his fractured hand. He was brought for
treatment to the clinic of Dr. Kid Dionaldo at North Poblacion, Jimalalud, police
probers said. A witness told the police that Lunie had been complaining
that everytime he took his prescribed medicine, he always hallucinated.
The suspect was turned over by his brother-in-law Dionisio Grapa after the stabbing.
The Jimalalud police station recommended his transfer to the Talay Rehabilitation
Center in Dumaguete City for treatment of his mental ailment. The police said
the suspect gave incoherent answers to their questions. Meanwhile, a 47-year-old
resident of Barangay One, Bais City was arrested Monday, also for stabbing his
wife. Jose Casamingo was apprehended by PO3 Zacariel Baldosano for stabbing
his wife, Anita, with a kitchen knife measuring about 10 inches. Baldosano
said the victim was rushed to the Bais District Hospital with her three stab wounds.
The suspect is now in the custody of the police and will face charges
upon inquest with the City Prosecutor's Office, the police said.*MA back
