Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia recently convened the Solid Waste Management board to address problems and issues concerning SWM, Councilor Greg Gasataya said yesterday.

Gasataya, chairman of the Committee on Environment and Ecology, said he will meet with the supervisors and personnel of the Department of Public Services after meeting with the SWM board to evaluate if there are legislative measures that need to be passed to make garbage collection more effective.

He said the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed an omnibus resolution, which he proposed, requesting the City Mayor, through the DPS, to install public address systems in all the garbage trucks to inform the public of its arrival.

Gasataya said he will propose today before the SP the installation of signages in the different areas in the city to inform the public of the garbage collection schedule of the DPS. He said he will also propose the installation of a DPS hotline where the public can channel their concerns, as well as propose that DPS personnel be provided with safety gear for their protection.*CGS
