Councilor wants
market body to convene

A resolution requesting the City Mayor's Office to immediately convene the Local Markets Committee in order to define and evaluate all the problems regarding operations of all the markets in Bacolod City is being proposed by Councilor Alex Paglumotan.

Paglumotan, chairman of the Committee on Markets and Slaughterhouse, yesterday said the resolution aims to give short-term and long-term solutions to the problems of the main markets in the city. He said that he and Councilors Dindo Ramos and Celia Flor believe there is an urgency for the Local Markets Committee to be convened. He also said that the problem of the markets is a "Herculian" task but if the executive and legislative branches join hands, this can be done.

Among the topics to be discussed is the status of the Bacolod Vendor's Plaza and the old and new slaughterhouses, Paglumotan said. He said the purpose of the BVP is to decongest the sidewalks of vendors and help address the problem of traffic congestion in the downtown area. However, they noticed that it did not resolve the problem of sidewalk vending, he added.

Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the rehabilitation of the three markets is a priority of the present administration for the next three years and one that their political party (Grupo Progreso) has included in the covenant they signed.*CGS
