GMA not keen on
Negros-Panay bridge
BY CARLA GOMEZ

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is not keen on pursuing the building of a bridge that would connect Negros and Panay because she wants projects that can be finished by the time her term ends in 2010, Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon said yesterday.

For the building of the bridge, the cost will be immense and the conduct of a feasibility study will take years, Maraņon added.

However, if we find private investors willing to build the bridge on a Build-Operate-and-Transfer scheme, she might reconsider, he said.

Maraņon has been pushing for the building of the bridge which, he said would boost Negros' economy. Japanese, Chinese and Spanish investors have expressed interests in looking into the project, he also said earlier.

Meanwhile, Maraņon yesterday said he is going on a nine-day vacation starting today.*CPG
