Negros Billiards Stable ace Ricky Zerna of Dumaguete City came-from-behind to nip John Rebong, 11-9, to rule the 2007 Puyat Sports 9-Ball Tournament late Sunday at the Bowling Inn in Manila.

Maximizing the winner's break format, Zerna completed the dramatic win by clustering nine straight racks in the finals of the 32-man event. Zerna beat veteran campaigner Jojo Santos (9-3) in the winner's brackets before losing to 2006 Sydney World Junior quarter-finalist Renemar "Revo" David (9-2) in the second round that put him in the loser's side.

But the Dumaguete native disposed national women's team member Iris Ranola (9-3), Roberto Dy (9-7) and Napoleon Labrador (9-4) to earn the right to face in the finals.

After racking up two straight wins, Jarry Pelayo, also of NBS, failed to advance after two successive losses.

Meanwhile, another NBS player, Lee Vann Corteza, may see action again in the Guinness 9-ball tour when the fifth and final leg opens on Aug. 3-5 in Shanghai, China. *CPT
