Improvements pushed
on solid waste mgn't

The Bacolod City Sanggunian passed an omnibus resolution recently pushing for the installation of a public address system in all garbage trucks, posting of signages, establishment of a complaint hotline, and providing safety gear and equipment for garbage collectors.

Councilor Greg Gasataya, chairman of the committee on environment and ecology, who authored the resolution, said in a press release from his office that it is obligatory for the city to promote and devise new ways to maintain cleanliness, and develop the spirit of involvement among the public.

The city is in the "Hall of Fame" for the Clean and Green Awards.

Gasataya said the installation of a public address system intends to notify the public of the arrival of garbage trucks, so they will be able to voluntarily take their garbage out for collection, the press release said. The putting of signages which bear the schedules of garbage collection in the strategic locations within the city will continue.

A public hotline to be managed by the Department of Public Services is also being pushed to cater to garbage-related concerns. This will give the public access into information about garbage collections and disposal, the press release said.

Safety gear and equipment will also be requested from the Office of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, for the safety of garbage collectors, the press release added.*
