Bago rice farmers now use
internet to get farming info

A group of farmers in Brgy. Dulao, Bago City are going high-tech, now accessing up-to-date farming information from multi-media sources, including the Internet.

The cyber community of Lopue's Farmers and Laborers Association, a first in Western Visayas, is one of the projects of the Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture, popularly known as the Pinoy Farmers' Internet, under the Philippine Rice Research Institute.

Roger Barroga, project manager of OPAPA, said LOFALAS received two sets of computer with accessories and compact discs containing the Knowledge Bank and the Rice Production Guide after 19 of their members and their children attended a two-day Basic Information and Communications Technology Training.

projects in DOE line-up

The Philippine National Oil Company-Energy Development Corp. has included its geothermal projects in Nasulo, Valencia and Dauin in Oriental in the lined up 330- to 380-megawatt power program in the next three to eight years, the Department of Energy said in a recent report.

The two projects are among the eight which consist either expansion of existing steamfields or the development of new fields.

The commissioning of the 20-MW Nasulo expansion project is set for 2010 while that of the 40-MW Dauin geothermal, for 2011 the report said.

Capitol to develop lot beside PNB for
commercial use, office space

The property beside the Philippine National Bank main branch at Lacson Street in Bacolod City is up for commercial use and office space within the bank is open for lease.

This was disclosed yesterday by Gov. Joseph Maraņon and Rafael Sison Jr., PNB senior vice president, after they inked yesterday an amendment to the PNB contract on the lease of provincial government property on which its main branch building is located.

The amendment provided for the return of 4,050 square meters, of the total 11,523 square meters leased by the bank, to the provincial government, Maraņon said.
