Two victories for NBS
standout in nat'l tilt

Jarry Pelayo of Negros Billiard Stable racked up two victories, including one against World Women's runner-up Rubilen Amit, at the start of the Puyat Sports 9-ball tournament at the Bowling Inn in Manila Saturday.

Pelayo, a firecracker victim, stunned the Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist Amit, 9-7, to set the pace in the tournament, which is using the winner's break format. Pelayo had a rough start, falling behind, 1-4, before clustering three straight racks, after an error by Amit on the 8-ball in the eighth frame.

Pelayo also subdued Napoleon Labrador and will face Michael Feliciano of Bugsy in the next round.

Two NBS stalwarts, Godofredo Ducanes and Troy Danao also advance to the next round.

Ducanes defeated Junbert Ogang and snooker specialist Benjie Guevarra. Ducanes will face 2006 Sydney World Junior quarter-finalist Renemar David, who beat Rene Bata and Ricky "Bai" Zerna.

Danao, on the other hand, nipped national women's pool member Mary-Ann Basas and Mike Takayama of Bugsy stable.*
