Oriental Negros Gov. Emilio Macias II will award next week P800,000
to winners of the 2005-2006 Gulayan at Palaisdaan Alay sa Kabataan,
an innovative revival of the backyard gardening and inland fishing.
Macias, who is starting his three-year term as governor of
the province, said he has prioritized the food security program
in his 12-point agenda to provide equal opportunity to the families
and elevate the quality of their lives.
To receive the awards are winners from the first, second and
third congressional districts in the Gulayan category, and the over-all
provincial winners in the Palaisdaan category. Provincial Agriculture
Office evaluators identified the winners for the first category
in the different districts to receive their individual prizes in
the form of projects as follows: First district, Tinaogan Elementary
School in Bindoy, first place; Bindoy Central School - second; and
Bagawines Elementary School in Vallehermoso town, third place.
Second first to third place district winners respectively are
Dahile Elementary School in Mabinay, Azagra Elementary School in
Tanjay City, and Junob National High School in Dumaguete City.
In the third district, winners are the Elias Macias Memorial
Elementary School in Siaton; Ambrosio Ramirez Elementary School
and Nangka Elementary School in Bayawan City for the first to third
places.
Winners will receive P100,000 in development projects each
for first place, P75,000 - second, and P50,000 for third place.
Meanwhile, the winners in the Palaisdaan category are the Jose
Rotea Memorial Elementary School in Tanjay City with P50,000 in
projects; La Libertad Elementary School in La Libertad, second,-
P30,000 and Maayong-Tubig Elementary School in Dauin with P20,000
worth of projects. Winners will submit a proposed environment-friendly
project, and infrastructure or livelihood-related program to boost
the income and employment opportunities in their areas before they
can avail of their prizes.*JG
