The call for an audit and evaluation of the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program by local chief executives in Negros Occidental got an initial boost after it was discovered that some beneficiaries had been granted by the Department of Agrarian Reform two or more Certificates of Land Ownership Award.

Records of DAR furnished to the Provincial Planning Development Office of Negros Occidental showed that 112,570 CLOAs were distributed to beneficiaries in 32 towns and cities of the province. With beneficiaries having more than two CLOAs with different serial numbers, the number of recipients is not equal to number of CLOAs given, to an initial study made by the provincial government of Negros Occidental, showed.

Widows of TFM farmers
appeal for GMA's help

The widows of the two Task Force Mapalad farmer-beneficiaries killed last month in Hacienda Velez-Malaga in Brgy. Robles, La Castellana yesterday appealed for financial assistance from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

At the press conference of the Progressive Alliance of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries and Advocates in Negros in Bacolod, Clarita Garcesa and Nelda Tupas said that, times become hard for their families after their husband died. Clarita is the widow of Alejandro Garcesa, 70, while Nelda, of Ely Tupas, 52. Both farmers were killed by the security guards of Hacienda Velez-Malaga when they attempted to occupy the portion of the Roberto Cuenca on June 4, more than two months after they were installed by Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman.

The Negros Occidental chapter of the Drugstore Association of the Philippines announced its incumbent officers headed by Jesus Tan of the Marilou Drugstore in its official newsletter recently.

Elected vice presidents were Mellie Leonardia of N Y M Pharmacy for internal affairs and Ma. Paz Lo of Negros Grace Pharmacy for external affairs. Secretary is Lisa Sanchez of N Y M Pharmacy, treasurer is Helen Wingkun of Eden Pharmacy and Nelia Ortaliz of Botica Nelia is auditor. Public Relations Officer is Roger Fernandez of RGF Trading.
