| Russian debut (2) As
doe-eyed Risa made her regal entrance into Philippine High Society, everyone stood
up to pay homage to this royalette with a vision. She has been devoting her time
to giving away scholarships and funding different local schools in her family's
haciendas. A coterie of Iloilo's young denizens made up her entourage for the
cotillon and she easily outshone all the young damsels and the strapping lads
with her grace and sparkling demeanor. A series of 15th century Russian royal
court dances had her group swaying and twirling like dolls. Fireworks
filled the sky as a toast of bubbly champagne was offered to the belle of the
ball by her beaming father, Judgee. She was then given 18 roses and 18 treasures
by the dancers and honored guests. The buffet bells rang and a sumptuous feast
was laid out that had endless servings of prime roast beef, the most expensive
cold cuts and imported European fare had the guests coming back for more.
A short program with her beloved scholars dancing a native polka followed with
praises given by her two sisters Rita and Rica giving everyone an insight to this
lucky lady. Iloilo top hostess Sarah O. P. had a touching speech that had the
guests misty-eyed but in typical Sarah-fashion quickly shifted gear to ballroom
dancing. Showstoppers that night were Amigo Terrace Hotel's icon Maridel
Uygongco in a chic polka dotted halter gown, Manila heiress Marivic Madrigal Vasquez
in a flaming red silk gown pinned into place by an heirloom brooch as large as
a plate and fashion signature Patis Tesoro looking very much a national heroine
in her trademark baro't saya. Of course, national palangga Maurice Arcache
closed the dance as everyone ducked a passing shower. It was all fun and elegance
in this coming-out party, indeed! MY PRAYER Jesus, Mary and Joseph, look
with compassion and love on all families throughout the world! |
