Maraņon orders investigation
on handling of dengue cases

Gov. Joseph Maraņon yesterday said he will look into reports that Negros Occidental district hospitals are turning away patients suffering from dengue fever and sending them to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

The governor said he was told southern district hospitals were involved and he could not believe that that was the attitude of the health personnel of the province.

We will have the matter looked into, he said, as he urged those complaining to give specifics so action can be taken. It is the obligation of hospitals to take in all patients, they cannot refuse them, he said.

Dengue cases had been on the rise, especially in Sipalay City and Hinobaan, lately.*CPG
