5 teams confirm
entry in cagefest

Five teams have signed up for the Sharp 12-Under Basketball Tournament that opens July 21 at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Organized by the Basketball Unified Sports Group, the tournament has attracted Tay Tung, University of St. La Salle, Trinity Christian School, St. Benilde School and Stallions and league organizer Bing Soyao said he expects more teams to join the age-group cagefest.

Soyao is waiting for confirmation from Don Bosco Technical Institute, St. Rose of Lima School, Bacolod Christian College of Negros, Mansilingan Christian Academy, University of Negros Occidental Recoletos and Tangub Christian Academy. The response of the teams will be known before their representatives and league officials meet again on July 14 when line-ups, waivers and galleries as well as entry fees will be accepted, Soyao said.

Soyao and BUS Group members Melvin Baclay, Ed Cruz and coaches Bobby Te, Lawrence and Van Yu of BTTHS, Christian Escote of SBS, Butch Cinco of SRLS were present during Saturday's meeting, which was also attended by Roger Banzuela, the NOPSSCEA sports task force chairman.

Banzuela announced that BUS Group's age-group events have been included in the NOPSSCEA calendar of activities to avoid conflict in schedules.

The main eligibility requirement for the 12-Under tournament is that players should be born on or later than Jan. 2, 1995, a BUS Group press release said.

Banzuela is expected to be the guest speaker for the opening.*
