BY MARICAR ARANAS

A jailguard assigned at the Dumaguete City Bureau of Jail Management and Protection was commended for his heroic act in apprehending a murder suspect last year.

Jail Officer 3 Jonathan Pepico received a "Medalyon ng Katapangan" Award at the BJMP National office in Manila last Monday, for his apprehension of the suspect who stabbed dead a nursing student of Silliman University Lucia Nina Estacio last year. The award was given by BJMP director Armando Llamazares.

Dumaguete City BJMP chief, Insp. Waldemar Villanueva said Pepico was off-duty when the incident happened, but did not have second thoughts about responding to the call for public service, Villanueva said.

He also said he hopes that the heroic act of Pepico will inspire other law enforcers to do the same.

Meanwhile, two policemen in Oriental Negros were recently promoted from Inspector to Police Senior Inspector .

They are Provincial Chief on Women and Children's Conern Desk and PCR P/S Insp. Rosalinda Abellon, and Zamboanguita PNP chief P/S Insp. Donald Gadingan, who received their promotion at the PNP Regional office in Cebu.*MA
