Bais bet concedes defeat
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Mayoralty candidate Francisco "Boy" Villanueva in Bais City, Oriental Negros, conceded defeat to incumbent Mayor Hector "Tata" Villanueva after the canvassing of election returns resumed Tuesday.

But although he is ready to accept the decision of the board of canvassers, Boy said he had no trust and confidence in the BoC and claimed that some of its members are city hall workers.

Earlier, he had filed a petition against the BOC for allegedly using casual employees of the Bais government as support staff. He said the people of Bais know how he fought and will be fighting for justice, and he was just following what is right under the law.

The lawyers of Villanueva, Fraulan Pinili and Eduardo Concepcion, had expressed dismay over the denial by election officer Juvenal Tuale of their motion for reconsideration, seeking to suspend the canvas of votes.

On the other hand, Hector Villanueva denied allegations of his participation in the appointment of the members BOC.

He said he has no jurisdiction over the matter and he is only doing the job that is assigned to him. He added that the people have spoken through the sanctity of ballots, and he will respect their decision.*MA
