Gov. Joseph Maraņon led the celebration of the 33rd
Nutrition Month on the theme, "Healthy Lifestyle ng Kabataan, Landas
sa Kinabukasan," in ceremonies held Monday, at the Negros Occidental
Multi-purpose Activity Center in Bacolod City a capitol press release
said.
It was attended by officials and employees from
the Capitol and the Department of Education. The celebration started
with a Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Nitoel Soriano of the Diocese
of Bacolod, followed by a program with regional nutritionist Marilyn
Tumilba of the Western Visayas Center for Health and Development,
as the keynote speaker.
Maraņon said the provincial government is supportive
of the nutrition programs for Negrenses, invalidating claims that
the province has malnutrition cases, the press release said.*

The Buddha's Light International Association Bacolod
Chapter announced the winners for its "Care for The Earth, Let Love
Fly" on-the- spot drawing contest held Sunday, at the Yuan Thong
Temple in Bacolod City, a press release from the group said.
The winners are: in Category A - 1st prize -
Danielle Denisse Duro of Jack & Jill School; 2nd prize - Marje Beatric
Padilla of La Consolacion College; and 3rd prize - June Naries Abellar
of St. Scholastica Academy. Consolation prizes were given to Kim
Chan Hee (SSA); Iasaiahnna Paula Genzola (SSA); and Carl Locson
(LCC).
Category B 1st to 3rd prize winners, respectively,
were Angeline Diaz (LCC), Kathleen Ababao (University of Negros
Occidenta.-Recoletos); and Anya Marie Louise Benedicto (SSA).
Consolation prizes were given to Alyssa Marie
Lobaton (USLS-IS); Lyka Huilar (Bacolod Tay Tung High School); and
Mary Natalie Ampil (SSA).
The 1st to 3rd prize winners in Category C respectively
went to Paolo Emmanuel Betita (St. Joseph High School); Abigail
Kristy Javellana (Tay Tung) and Ellani Huilar (Tay Tung).
Consolation prizes went to Hannah Therese
Sayson (SSA), Mel Rose Aguilar (LCC), and Margheri Baylin (SSA).
Charlie Co, Eduardo Vasquez, and Robert de Arco were
members of the board of judges. Cash prizes, certificate and souvenirs
were awarded to the winners, the press release added.*

Stroke
lay forum set
A Stroke Lay Forum to increase public awareness about
stroke prevention and management will be held 1 to 4 p.m. July 19,
at the Provincial Multipurpose Gym near the Capitol Lagoon, in Bacolod
City, a press release from organizers said.
The activity is one of the highlights of the 2007
National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week celebration.
It is jointly spearheaded by the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation
Medicine Visayas and the Negros Occidental Rehabilitation Foundation
Inc., in cooperation with a corporate sponsor.
Lecturers and panelists are Drs. Primitivo Cammayo
- NORFI medical director; Filipinas Ganchoon, PARM-Visayas, WV regional
coordinator; Manuel Gayoles Jr. (1st vice president, PARM; Andrew
Sanchez - NORFI medical officer; and Wilson Tulmo (chairman, University
of St. La Salle College of Medicine, Department of Neurology), the
press release said.
Registration is free for the first 500 participants,
and the first 200 participants older than 40 years old will also
avail of free random blood sugar, and cholesterol and circulation

Inaugural
session held
Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. delivered his state of Kabankalan
address at the inaugural session Tuesday of the Sangguniang Panlungsod
of Kabankalan that was opened by Vice Mayor Anacan, a press release
from the city government said.
Zayco enumerated the projects his administration
will implement in his last term as mayor that includes the construction
of a huge sports center. Zayco, assisted by Councilors Raul Rivera
and Mamerto Mayoga, Jr. gave plaques of appreciation to outgoing
SP members Efren Gaspillo, Gina Genesera, Procopio Lescano and Andrremoore
Limsiaco.
Major Calixto Magubat, the new chief of police
of Kabankalan, was also introduced and gave a short message to the
council. Mabugat swapped assignments with Chief Insp. Roderick Alba,
now assigned in Silay City, the press release said.
City government department heads, barangay captains
and kagawads attended the session. A fellowship lunch followed the
