BOC denies motion to
suspend canvassing
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The lawyers of Bais City mayoralty candidate Francisco Villanueva walked out from the session hall, Tuesdsay, when election officer Juvenal Tuale denied their motion for reconsideration to suspend canvassing of votes in the city.

Earlier, acting Oriental Negros election supervisor Eddie Aba said he had received a resolution from the Commission on Elections dated June 28 directing the Bais City Board of Canvassers to resume the canvassing of votes effective July 3.

Villanueva has filed a petition against the Bais BOC for allegedly using casual employees of the city government as their support staff.

Tuting donates for housing
BY RENE GENOVE

The family of Mayor Agustin Perdices is donating a more than half a hectare lot to the Habitat for Humanity, in response to the housing for the poor program of the Dumaguete City government.

The property is located in Barangay Candau-ay and valued at about a million pesos. In his message at the oath taking rites Friday at the City Session Hall, Perdices said the donation is in accordance to the thrust of his administration to embark on a more aggressive housing program, especially for the less fortunate.

Sufficient rice supply assured
BY RENE GENOVE

The National Food Authority in Oriental Negros has assured the public and its accredited retailers of sufficient stock of rice for distribution to complement the local rice supply.

The assurance was made by NFA provincial manager Gil Ibarra who encouraged retailers to continue selling NFA rice at the government-controlled price of P18 per kilo.

Ibarra said his office has received various shipments of imported rice from Vietnam and Pakistan. In March, NFA received 16,000 bags of Vietnam rice and 35,000 bags of Pakistani rice.
