BOC denies motion to
suspend canvassing
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The lawyers of Bais City mayoralty candidate Francisco Villanueva walked out from the session hall, Tuesdsay, when election officer Juvenal Tuale denied their motion for reconsideration to suspend canvassing of votes in the city.

Earlier, acting Oriental Negros election supervisor Eddie Aba said he had received a resolution from the Commission on Elections dated June 28 directing the Bais City Board of Canvassers to resume the canvassing of votes effective July 3.

Villanueva has filed a petition against the Bais BOC for allegedly using casual employees of the city government as their support staff.

The lawyers of Villanueva, Fraulan Pinili and Eduardo Concepcion, said they were dismayed at the act of Tuale in not granting their prayer for a motion of reconsideration and will file additional charges against Tuale for this.

Meanwhile, Tuale said they expect to finish the canvassing and formally proclaim the winning candidates today.

Bais City has a total of 234 election returns and 170 of than have not been canvassed yet. Aba said the result of the canvassing of votes is crucial to the race for the 12th Senate seat.*MA
