The stepfather of a 16-year-old rape-slay victim in Talisay City,
is now being held at the police station for investigation.
Talisay police chief Joseph Thomas Martir yesterday said they
have noted many inconsistencies in the statement of Jigger Besorio,
stepfather of victim Mary Joy Mayo, in connection with the brutal
rape-slay of the teenager Monday.
Martir said the family and relatives of Mayo had aired suspicions
on his possible participation in the molestation and killing of
the victim, a first year college student of the Carlos Hilado Memorial
State College in Talisay City.
Besorio and 10 other construction and farm workers who were
invited for questioning by the Talisay, were also subjected yesterday
to paraffin tests at the city police station headquarters.
Initial findings of the medico-legal officer of the Talisay
showed that the victim had two gunshot wounds in her breast and
right leg, and seven incise wounds in the forehead.
Police investigations show that the victim was on her way
home before noon of July 2, when she was reportedly waylaid by her
assailant/s, who dragged and molested her in a canefield, before
killing her, in Hacienda Cabanbanan, Brgy. Zone 12-A, Talisay City.
Martir said the family of the victim alleged that they saw
the suspect near the crime scene, shortly before the discovery of
the body.
He, however, said the evidences available to them are all
circumstantial at this time.
Besorio denied that he was behind the rape-slay of his stepdaughter.
The body of Mayo a resident of Cuartero town in Capiz, was
also discovered half-naked, without her pants and underwear, in
a sugarcane plantation of the place.
Witnesses said the personnel belongings of the victim were
also found scattered along the hacienda road, leading to the canefield
where her body was found.
Martir said a .38 caliber revolver slug was also recovered
from the crime scene.*GPB
