Mayor seeks cooperation
of political opponents
BY ROMY AMARADO

Newly proclaimed Mayor-elect Lawrence Teves of Tanjay City expressed confidence that his political opponents and their supporters who may still have clouts in the city government, will eventually cooperate with his administration.

Teves, whose election was questioned by his opponents for alleged irregularities, said his program is beneficial to everybody, there is no reason to derail it.

The camp of mayoralty candidate Neil Salma had protested the authenticity of 27 election returns in Tanjay. But election officer Rafael Orillana said the board of canvassers in the city dismissed the protest. This prompted Salma to bring the issue before the Commission on Election Manila.

A fugitive American national facing child abuse charges in the United States was apprehended by the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation and the Dumaguete City police at a hotel in the city, at about 10 a.m. Monday.

The suspect identified as Stanley Dan Reczko, III, 42, married, from Handerson Hauburn, New York, in the US, was collared by immigration officer Delausan Monon, assisted by city policemen, on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by the Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan. The BID said Reczko also violated Philippine immigration laws.

Dumaguete PNP chief, Supt. Dionardo Carlos, said the suspect was charged in the US, and hinted that Reczko could be a pedophile as he has a 16-year-old Filipina wife in the Philippines.
