urges gov't workers

Oriental Negros Governor Emilio Macias II called on various local government officials to start the ball rolling towards further improving the lives of the people, and enhancing basic services delivery in the province.

In his inaugural speech Saturday afternoon, Macias, a doctor by profession, recalled the programs and projects that his administration had embarked on 19 years ago when he first became the governor of the province. Back then, he said, he spoke of a "new beginning - a new day with a pledge to solve the problems then", which he said he believes had been substantially achieved.

However, Macias noted that upon his return to the province, they are confronted with new and bigger challenges that might consume all of them.

"Therefore, we must adopt sustainable, adequate, and innovative strategies to give equal opportunities to all the families in Negros Oriental, so that they can improve and elevate the quality of their own lives", Macias said.

He challenged the new leaders of the province to provide more and better opportunities in food security, health programs, livelihood and employment, education, a safe and sustainable environment, peace and order, sound budget management, innovations through research and development, appropriate and needed infrastructure, better access to information, spiritual development through ecumenical dialogs, and a responsive program on social concerns and welfare.

He called on the elected provincial leaders to set aside their political differences and move on to work harmoniously.

Macias also said the new leadership has 36 months to accomplish all that he had mentioned and considering the time available and the tremendous tasks ahead, he is urging political leaders to extend working hours, explore new trails and take the road less traveled.

He also noted the active participation of the non-government and private sector in pushing the development agenda of the province during his stint and during the administration of former Gov. George Arnaiz and appealed once more to these sectors for their continued support.*JG
