Another rape-slay incident also involving a minor, yesterday took
place in Talisay City even as the police have not yet solved the
brutal killing and molestation of a 13-year-old girl in Bago City
last month.
This time the victim was a 17-year-old student of the Carlos
Hilado Memorial State College in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Initial police investigations showed that the body of the
victim, identified as Mary Joy Mayo, a resident of Cuartero town
in Capiz, was discovered half-naked, without her pants and underwear,
in a sugarcane plantation in Hacienda Cabanbanan, Brgy. Zone 12-A,
Talisay City.
The victim had injuries in the head and stab wounds in her
breast and legs.
Witnesses said the personnel belongings of the victim were
also found scattered along the hacienda road, leading to the canefield
where her body was found by residents.
Several persons were invited for questioning by the Talisay
police last night, to extract information that may help them in
identifying the suspect/s.
The victim was brought to the Manapla Funeral Homes in Talisay
for autopsy.
On the other hand, another suspect invited for questioning
in the brutal rape-slay of a 13-year-old girl in Bago City, was
freed on Friday, in the absence of a witness linking him to the
crime, police said.
Bago police chief Alex Belonio, however, said they will file
charges against Ivan Calero, a trisikad driver, if evidences recovered
from his house will bolster their initial findings that he was involved
in the commission of the crime.
A piece of wood and a bolo with dried bloodstains recovered
by the Bago police helped them in identifying Calero as a suspect
in the brutal rape-slay of Ma. Teresa Medrano in Brgy. Don Jorge
Araneta in Bago City.
The house of Calero is about 200 meters away from the creek
where the decomposing body of the victim, also a resident of the
place, was discovered by a rice farmer on June 20.
Calero's companion identified as Jose Sedayon and Efren Fria
were invited for questioning by the Bago police. However, they were
also released by the police after witnesses failed to positively
identify them as the perpetrators in the rape-slay of Medrano.
Belonio said they are now waiting for the result of the examination
of evidences they had submitted to the police Crime Laboratory at
Camp Crame.
Police investigations show that Medrano had four hack wounds in
the nape and on the left and right side of her face, two fractured
ribs and right lower jaw, hematoma in both knees and bite marks
on her left breast, aside from signs of having been being molested.*GPB
