DHSBNHS takes
Shakey's volley lead

La Carlota City-based Doņa Hortensia Salas Benedicto National High School emerged the solo pacesetter in the Negros leg of the Shakey's Girls Invitational Volleyball League, after scraping past host University of St. La Salle at the USLS College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The DHSBNHS spikers rallied for a 19-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory to follow up its 25-8, 25-13 beating of St. Benilde School on opening-day. It was the La Carlota spikers' second victory in as many matches in the tournament, which was trimmed to just six teams, following the withdrawal of St. Scholastica's Academy.

La Salle bounced back with a 25-16, 25-21 win over La Consolacion College yesterday for solo second place, while defending champion Doņa Montserrat Lopez NHS improved to 1-1, after a 25-10, 25-16 triumph over SBS.

LCC is also at 1-1, following a 25-11, 25-19 victory over St. Benilde Saturday.

The champion in the Negros leg will meet the winners from Manila, Cebu and Iloilo in the national finals starting July 18 also at the USLS Covered Court.

Meanwhile, Hope Christian School downed UE, 25-21, 25-10, 25-22, to reach the finals of the Manila leg held at the Blue Eagle Gym in Manila. University of Sto. Tomas and St. Francis of Assisi College were playing for the second finals berth as of press deadline.

In Cebu, University of Southern Philippines Foundation defeated Abellana National Highschool, 25-14, 25-17, to retain the crown. *CPT
