32 troopers get awards
AT ARMY BRIGADE ANNIVERSARY
BRGY. MINOYAN, Murcia - The 303rd Infantry "Brown
Eagle" Brigade yesterday marked its 21st founding anniversary by
giving recognition to 32 of its personnel, who have performed above
the call of duty in the peace and development campaign in Negros
island.
ILt. Ricardo Villaruel, a junior officer of the
11th Infantry Battalion, yesterday led the 32 military awardees
honored by the Philippine Army. He was conferred a Gold Cross Medal,
in recognition of his exploits displayed during an encounter with
New People's Army rebels in Brgy. Quezon, San Carlos City early
this year.
Brig. Gen. Gregorio Fajardo, 303rd IB commander,
said he was deeply delighted by the courage and the unquestionable
loyalty that his men have shown in the performance of their tasks.
Gregorio said their theme "303rd Brigade: Tagapagtaguyod
ng Kayapaan Tungo sa Kaunlaran" aptly describes their efforts in
solving insurgency problems in Negros, by coordinating all stakeholders
to attain peace and development in their areas of operation.
Other awardees from the 11th Infantry Battalion
who are recipients of Military Medals were Lt. Col. Jess Manangquil,
ILt. Ronaldo Sarmiento, 2Lts. Darwin Naje, Manuel Mendoza and Kevin
Sambo, TSgt. Rodolfo Abad, Sgt. Rene Maghupoy and Tsgt. Rene Calcilar.
Also recipients of the similar medal from the
61st Infantry Battalion were 2Lt. Joshua Biag, PFC Gregorio Patendol,
Cpl Ian Edral, PFC Sandy Castor, PFC Denmark Peson, Sgt, Salvador
Balontong, Sgt. Aeljandro Nagnal and PFC Rolly Lindong;
SSgt Eduardo Acosta, Cpl. Heindin Absin and Sgt.
Leonardo Balcena of the 3rd Scout Ranger Company, Capt. Eliseo Betinol
of the 33rd Division Recconnaisance Company, 2Lt. Roberto Salvador
of the 12th Infantry Battalion;
Majors Nathaniel Villasor and Dennis Perez, SSgt.
Ronilo Librado, SSgt. Roberto Fidelson, Sgt. Rodolfo Calla, Sgt.
Edwin Trinidad and Sgt. Willy Sioco.
On the other hand, Sgt. Felix Himbing was adjudged
as best enlisted personnel of the year, military records show.
Fajardo also enjoined all troopers of the 303rd
Infantry Brigade to renew their pledge of service, loyalty and honor
to the country.
Maj. Gen. Jovenal Narcise, 3rd Infantry Division
commander, was represented by his deputy, Brig. Gen. Nestor Ochoa,
as the guest of honor and speaker of the 303rd IB founding anniversary.*GPB

Cops apprehend 10
for illegal gambling
The police arrested 10 persons for allegedly violating
Presidential Decree 1602 or illegal gambling in separate operations
in Bacolod City yesterday, the PNP said.
Abeto Academia, 47, of Purok Kingfisher, Brgy.
16, Antonio Bolidas, 36, of Brgy. 34, Rolly Belonia, 32, of Purok
Maya, Brgy. 16, and Henry Burgos, 18, of Brgy. 36, all in Bacolod
City, were arrested by Police Station 1 officers led by PO1 Jonnel
Ponce at Rodriquez Baybay, Bacolod City at about 3 p.m. yesterday.
The four were allegedly playing "cara y cruz"
or "tumbo" in "plain view", police records showed.
Meanwhile, officers led PO1 Edgar Marcelo nabbed
Romeo Paclibar, 18, of Brgy. 29, Bacolod City, Loren Simple, 26,
of Brgy. Aligria, Murcia, and Nestor Cabrera, 27, of Brgy. Urong,
Kabankalan, both in Negros Occidental, at Luzuriaga Street at about
2 p.m. yesterday. Police reports said that the three were also engaged
in a game of "cara y cruz" in plain view in the area.
Anjoval Paredes, 44, of Brgy. Pahanocoy,
Leony Songlayaw, 42, of Purok Kabugwason, Brgy. Mansilingan, and
Felix Primanga, 52, of Brgy. Banago, all in Bacolod City, were playing
"tong-its" at Luzuriaga Street at about 3:45 p.m. yesterday, police
reports said. The police confiscated P90 in cash and a set of playing
cards from the ten, police reports also said.
"Cara y cruz" and "tong-its" are among the illegal
or unauthorized activities prohibited by law under Section 1 of
P.D. 1602.*PP
